UNITED NATIONS ASSOCIATION – GHANA MARKS 76Th UN DAY

The United Nations Association – Ghana ( UNA-GH) has observed the 76th UN Day with a call on Governments and their Allied agencies to work with civil society organizations to achieve a collective interest of building back on pillars of peace and prosperity for all citizens.
The event was held in collaboration with the Renel Ghana and Lamaconsult Foundation, both NGOs in the Ekumfi district of the central region of Ghana.
Among the activities commemorating the 76th UN day included a live concert and pre-recorded performances, with a small audience while observing the covid 19 protocols
In a symbolic gesture to mark the UN Day, the President and the Deputy General Secretary of UNA-GH and executives of Renel Ghana and Lamaconsult Foundation in a joint move presented sanitary pads to some Basic Schools in Ekumfi community and interacted with the school children.
Speaking on the theme “Building Back Together for Peace and Prosperity”, the president of UNA-GH, Bishop Peter Sackey called for more collaboration between government and civil society to work together to create opportunities for prosperity and peace.
He further commended the interventions of Civil Society Organisations particularly in the areas of women empowerment, girls education, teenage pregnancies, menstrual health, reproductive health, morality among others.
The team also made a whistle stop at the District Directorate at Essarkyir, and interacted with the staff and Director of Education in the Ekumfi District.
On his part, the Deputy Secretary General of UNA-GH Dr. Nii Lamptey emphasized on the contributions of the UN Charter in guiding nations for the past 76 years of it’s existence in promoting partnership, world peace, and ending poverty of all forms.
