The United Nations Association-Ghana, (UNA-GH), an affiliate of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA), has paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong.

The meeting was to introduce current national executives of the UNA-GH, foster bilateral ties with the Ministry, and seek ways of collaborating with the Ministry to advance the cause of the UNA-GH in supporting the work of the United Nations.

The Deputy Minister recalled how he engaged himself actively in the activities of the Ghana United Nations Students Association (GUNSA), the students wing of the then Ghana United Nations Association (GUNA) in the 1970s when he was a student. He said his membership afforded him the opportunity to travel extensively. According to him, his participation in the activities of GUNSA and the exposure he got contributed immensely in his acquisition of leadership skills. GUNA is now UNA-GH to conform to the global naming principles of United Nations Associations in all UN Member States.

Hon. Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration acknowledged the role of the United Nations Association of Ghana in fostering the agenda of the United Nations. He noted that the Ministry was ready for deeper collaboration with the UNA-GH to achieve the UN thematic goals of Peace, Security, Sustainable Development and Human Rights.

The Deputy Minister was happy about the fact that Ghana would chair the United Nations Security Council in November 2022 after being elected permanent member of the Council in June 2022. Ghana’s agenda is focusing on Enhancing Global Peace and Security for Sustainable and Inclusive Development particularly on the continent of Africa.

The President of the United Nations Association-Ghana, Bishop Peter Kojo Sackey announced that the UNA-GH has set out to mobilise over 1 million volunteers in the coming years to drive support for activities of the United Nations.

The United Nations Association of Ghana and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration finally assured each other of cordial and fruitful collaboration with the view to achieving the goals of the UN.
